Roslyn: A town with a history as rich
as the state of Washington

Roslyn, Washington (population 1000-ish) was founded in 1886 as a coal mining town by Logan M. Bullet, vice president of the Northern Pacific Coal Company. Just off I-90 and only a couple of miles Northwest of Cle-Elum, Roslyn is a mecca for Winter and Summer recreation activities – including the best mountain biking in Washington. Visitors can rent a bike and hit the trails without having to worry about bike racks and shuttles. Hiking and Snowmobiling are the most popular activities, but Roslyn and the surrounding area are also major destinations for camping, fishing, horseback riding, and golf. Roslyn is also the gateway to Salmon La Sac and several Alpine Lakes – and Basecamp is an ideal headquarters to gear up for hiking and camping excursions. Of special note, Roslyn provided the backdrop for the television series Northern Exposure. In the series, Roslyn played the role of the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska. Today, many of the buildings look just as they did when the series concluded over 15 years ago. Roslyn is also filled with quaint, unique shopping and dining experiences. Here are a few of our favorite haunts:
Roslyn Café – home to the famous mural of the camel, however, the food is their real attraction.
The Brick – originally opened in 1889, is Washington’s oldest continuously operating bar
Basecamp Books & Bites – is a community gathering place, it’s a spot to grab a bite or read a book
Logan’s – casual local restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a large outdoor patio that is dog friendly.
The Red Bird Café – serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers a wide variety of unique and tasty meals with a local flare.
Roslyn Mexican Grill – specializes in pre-Hispanic Mexican cuisine.
Heritage Distillary – where you can experience our award-winning spirits steeped in history.
Village Pizza – one of the best places you’ll find anywhere for tasty Pizza!
Coal Chute Café – Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; with a full bar, local draft micro-brews and domestic favorites.
